With Shrek 4D recently closing, fans of Universal Studios are beginning to wonder whether the E.T. ride will be the next to go.
The ride, which is based on the tremendously popular 1982 Stephen Spielberg film “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” that opened in Universal Studios Florida in 1990 and is the only ride that is still open from when the park originally opened to the public. Even after all of the years in operation, it is still one of the signature rides in Universal Studios.

Although popular rides do close and are re themed, such as “Back to the Future”, “Jimmy Nutron”, “Twister” and “Jaws” to name a few, I do not see this happening to E.T. at this point.
As of right now, the questions are just rumors. With Universal Studios primarily focusing on its fourth gate “Epic Universe”, I really do not see anything happening within the foreseeable future. Universal also just released new merchandise for E.T. which is usually not a sign of anything happening to the attraction within the near future. So grab your bag of Reese’s Pieces, sit back and help Elliot get E.T. to his spaceship so that he can go home.
